Both Bailey and Payton Leonard, from Vinton, have achieved academic ranking in the top 2 percent of students in the College of Human Sciences at Iowa State University.

Kersten King was named to Augustana College winter term Dean's List
Kersten King, a senior majoring in Communication Sciences & Disorders and Communication Studies from Dysart, IA, was among the students named to Augustana College's 2015 winter term Dean's List.
Founded in 1860, Augustana College is a selective four-year residential college of the liberal arts and sciences. The college is recognized for the innovative program Augie Choice, which provides each student up to $2,000 to pursue a high-impact learning experience such as study abroad, an internship or research with a professor.

The Vinton Garden Club member of National Garden Clubs, Inc; District II and Central Region met at Pizza Ranch at 11:30 am for lunch, the program and the meeting. The program was given by Jennifer Fencl, Cedar Rapids on “The do's and the don'ts of recycling here in Vinton. It was a very informative and interesting program.
Nominations Open for State Fair Award to Recognize Farm Family Values
The Iowa State Fair and WHO News Radio 1040 are searching for nominations for the 2016 Way We Live Award to honor farm families that exemplify the unique values derived from hard work and a love for the occupation of farming.
To enter or nominate someone you know, submit an entry form along with a 500-1500 word essay describing how living on a farm and choosing the occupation of farming has shaped the family's life.
Zachary Wells Graduates from Illinois Central College
Zachary Allen Wells, of Urbana, Iowa, graduated from Illinois Central College, East Peoria, with an Associate in Applied Science Degree. More than 800 students met the graduation requirements for the Summer and Fall 2015 semesters.
Started in 1967, ICC is a comprehensive public community college that provides transfer programs for students who intend to pursue a bachelor's degree at a four-year college or university as well as career programs for students who plan to gain skills and knowledge to enter a career.

Local students receive fall 2015 University of Iowa degrees
About 1,400 students received degrees from the University of Iowa at the close of the fall 2015 semester.
Students from our area receiving degrees included:
Sara Herman of Atkins, IA (52206), received a BSN-Nursing-RN degree.
Travis Vogel of Blairstown, IA (52209), received a BA-Communication Studies degree.
Harley Luck of Dysart, IA (52224), received a BA-International Relations; CER-Entrepreneurial Management degree.
Jacob Isbell named to University of Iowa President's List
Jacob Isbell, a University of Iowa student from Garrison, IA, was named to the university's President's List for the fall 2015 semester.
The President's List was established in the fall of 1983 to recognize academic excellence. In order to be included on the list, a student must have a minimum 4.0 grade point average (4.0 is an A) in all academic subjects for the preceding two semesters, with a total of at least 12 semester hours of credit per semester during that period.
